Mirena – I Got It
I got Mirena yesterday. It was not bad at all. I did a lot of research on it before hand. (You might want to read my post on the pros and cons of the Mirena IUD/IUC.) The procedure took about 5 minutes total and didn’t hurt. Yesterday, after it was put in, I had a few period-like cramps but nothing Motrin couldn’t handle. I woke up this morning feeling fine. So far so good. My only issue is remembering something I have to do in exactly five years.

I love to write, learn, and share what I know - all while taking lots of pictures. I live in Los Angeles and am married to a very handsome man named Stan. We have a 5 year old Vizsla, a 3 year old daughter, and one on the way (due Aug, 2011). Thanks for stopping by!

Good for you! My issue is whether I should go hormone free or not. I’d really be interested to know how you feel and if the hormones affect you as badly as if you were on the pill (or better or worse!). I think there’s more cramping with the copper IUD.
[...] The cost of mirena without insurance is about $700 up front. Although if you look at this from a 5 year perspective it costs $11.66 a month (cheaper than the pill for me with insurance) but if you only use it for 1 year it’s $58 a month (more expensive than the pill). So it’s a better option if you are waiting long term to have a baby. Some insurance plans cover part of the cost of Mirena. For example, my co-pay would be $148. (Update: my co pay ended up being $0. So my Mirena didn’t cost anything.) [...]
I hope it all works out well for you. I personally had 2 horrible IUD(than) now IUC? I was never told that if your cervex is tilted at all the cramps and discomfort will remain before and after ovuation. I had my first one for 2 years after 2 children and had it removed cause of the hormones, I personally couldnt handle them. However I did have another one put in cause it was my last resort before tying my tubes, My son was concieved on the pill and my daughter was concieved on depo. I know what your all thinking and no, I didnt miss or skip or screw with the pill and the shot well, it was my 5th so I’d been on it for 15 months and I was only 10 weeks into the shot whenI didnt get my period, Welcome Emma. So back to Mirena, I had some horrible cramps and went in to see my ob, which requested a ultrasound and found 2 cyst which had ruptered and 1 more that was “hanging” off my ovary. With further research it had solid matter in it and needed to be surgiclly removed. My IUD had to come out and that I was back at square one. No birthcontrol so we decided 2 children were enough. I had my tubes tied while they removed my ovary cause the cyst caused my ovary to twist and hang, there was no saving it. So my question was why did I start getting the cyst? Mirena… I now am taking a progesterone only birth control to contro my cyst. 3 years later!!!! I know it was stated in the 4page info but it never stated once you get them you continue to get them even without the IUD-IUC. The best of luck!
i have been researching mirena and stumbled upon your previous post about the pros/cons of the iuc, and i was just wondering how you were feeling now that you’ve had it for a while. is it worth it? have you had any major problems?
